It Was BIG . . . Really, Really B.I.G.!
Energy, Enthusiasm and Entrepreneurship were the hallmarks of The B.I.G. Summit held on Thursday, November 19. With nearly 400 registered guests, the Orlando Regional Chamber's inaugural event focused on Business Innovation and Growth. From the "rock star" staging to the very popular blue jeans dress code, The B.I.G. Summit delivered all that was promised . . . and more!
The outstanding lineup of local entrepreneurs discussed some of the most challenging and important questions of scale, markets, and changing business conditions and business models. They also willingly responded to questions from the audience regarding their own entrepreneurial innovations and insights.
Breakout sessions covered such topics as Building Bridges Between Generations, Economic Gardening, Getting into the Go-to-Market Zone, Growing Globally, and Using Digital Media.
A luncheon presentation by Mark Wilson, President of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, provided insight on Florida's key drivers for economic prosperity.
An afternoon plenary session focused on Money for Growth and the changing banking and funding scene in Florida as well as the myths and realities of the changing economy for new and maturing ventures, traditional banking, mezzanine investors, and structural changes in economic and consumer conditions. Attendees were invited to "Tweet" their questions and comments, streaming live during this session.
Orlando INcThe Orlando Regional Chamber's BIG announcement came in the form of a new logo debut - ORLANDO, INC. - which reflects our emphasis on building business in Central Florida and is a result of our recent transformation to create a culture of Entrepreneurship in our region that will match or exceed world centers of commerce and innovation. Building upon The B.I.G. Summit, ORLANDO, INC., will continue to explore new opportunities for innovation and growth, helping its members identify and access sources for capital, cutting-edge technology and intellectual support that will fuel each stage of business and Central Florida's engine for economic vitality.
The final session featured Zappos.com CEO, Tony Hsieh, who shared his company philosophy focused on delivering the best customer service possible. Creating a culture of service from the call center employees to those in the shipping department and in management, each is empowered to "Create WOW" for every customer. "Satisfied customers are our best word-of-mouth advertising," said Hsieh, "allowing Zappos to redirect traditional marketing and advertising dollars to providing two-way free shipping, or an instant upgrade to overnight delivery, for example."
"I want to thank all those who were able to participate in The B.I.G. Summit and assure our members that I will use the issues, comments, and questions shared last week to drive the Orlando Regional Chamber's efforts as we move forward," said Leslie Hielema, President of the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce, now ORLANDO, INC. "We look forward to building on the success of this year's Summit to bring you a richer opportunity to dialog, learn, and connect throughout the year ahead."
