Leadership Orlando "Sound Bites"

Thursday, April 28, 2005

EveryMonday is giving you an "inside look" at the Leadership Orlando program as shared by a current participant.

LO Who?
Mr. Dave Krepcho, Executive Director
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida
Leadership Orlando Class 66

LO Why? I have actually applied a few "learnings" from Leadership Orlando in our strategic plan that is now in the works; that's exciting stuff. One particular area of application is the regional concept of thinking. One of our four major strategic goals has now been re-oriented and re-worded to include the regional view. Our service area includes six of the seven counties included in your regional outlook and the myregion.org Sourcebook that serves as the basis for the curriculum in Leadership Orlando.

LO What? The Leadership Orlando team is doing an excellent job engaging us; this week's session regarding education in our region was very interesting. That in, with the Education Summit that featured eight school superintendents, and keynote speakers Winston Scott, USN Retired and Executive Director of the Florida Space Authority, and Sylvester James Gates, Jr., John S. Toll Professor & Director of the Center for String & Particle Theory, Physics Department, University of Maryland and Jones High School Graduate, emphasized how important education excellence is to the future of our region.

LO WOW! Connections made and relationships further developed...Linda Watson, CEO of LYNX, is also participating in our Leadership Orlando Class 66. LYNX has partnered with several non-profit organizations with their public service bus to further Build Community.

To be a part of the next Leadership Orlando class beginning in June, contact Kathy Panter, Marketing Director at 407 835.2499 or via email at kathy.panter@orlando.org.
